First Watch
Downtown Cincinnati
Dining downtown this weekend was fun and fairly friendly while patrons feasted on fabulously fresh fare for the fairly frugal. The only drawback was the FRIGIDITY. That's what we found this weekend at the First Watch, Downtown, Cincinnati, OH.
Hello we're Leon and Phoebe and we were greeted by a couple of large toothy smiles (says Leon) and seated in the center of the restaurant where there was a rather numerous and relaxed staff who were dressed in short sleeves and khakis. The patrons were plentiful and of average middle class and the menu - seemed fresh and hip.
Seated promptly and made to feel comfortable in taking our time to order, we checked out the menu of eggs, waffles, omelettes, sandwiches, crêpes, muffins, fruit bowls, and salads. However, it wasn't that simple - everything seemed to have a continental or rather cultural spin on it.
For example, a few of their menu items were called: "Floridian French Toast™, Belgian Waffle, Bacado™, the Acapulco Express™, Killer Cajun®, and Greek Fetish®." Many of you will also enjoy the fact that all omelettes at First Watch are made with fresh, cage-free eggs.
The choices really did look delicious and both Phoebe and Leon played the eenimeenie miney moe game to place their orders. Phoebe got the Turkey sandwich and Leon got the Juacim crêpegg (sp). Both meals were tasty but Leon says Juacim could have used a touch more cilantro. The potatoes were not as hot as desired but that could have been due to the fact that it was actually very chilly at the table.
To sum it all up
First watch is fun, relaxed, the servers are friendly, and the food tastes fresh. Leon and Phoebe ate for under $20 and they did not leave hungry. The only drawback noted were that a sweater or a coat was necessary and the ceiling looked as if Big Bob may have thrown up on it. Easily fixed though, wear a coat and don't look up! A great place to enjoy a Saturday morning with a large selection of Breakfast/brunch fare. If you plan on eating breakfast for dinner though, forget it. First watch is only open until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
